To the SOUTH WEST SCHOOLS’ FEDERATION

The Federation was formed in September 2012 between Woolacombe School and Combe Martin Primary School. Both schools have the common theme of being situated right on the coast with spectacular countryside and scenery. Both villages are based around tourism and farming, with many families coming new to the area from the cities.

Bampton Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School joined SWSF in May 2015. This school serves a rural community close to the town of Tiverton.

The Federation staff work alongside each other to share good practice, ideas and expertise. We often combine to have joint Federation days and Residential trips such Year 6 London and Year 5 Dorset etc.

We also have a joint Senior Leadership Team which and Curriculum Subject Teams so that we can plan and ensure breadth and continuity for the  pupils.

Teachers often plan together and use IT to communicate such as blogging etc.
Year 6 will be going to London on a 5 day residential in the Spring Term. The schools have a comprehensive programme of residential visits:

Year 5 will be going to Dorset on a 5 day visit during the Summer Term

Year 4 are booked into Cornwall in the Autumn Term for 4 days

Year 3 during the same time will be going to Paignton as a 4 day residential

(please note that there may be joint year groups)

Sport also plays a major part in the daily life of the schools. The South West Schools’ Federation recently came 1st and 3rd against all the Ilfracombe area schools in the Year 5/6 Indoor Athletics Festival.  They have made County Finals in Quik Cricket as well as the prestigious English Schools National Final at Sheffield. Watch out for more as we participate in all sporting events on the school’s websites, twitter and Flickr accounts.

The Federation schools are also a member of the North Devon Teaching School Alliance as Woolacombe is a National Support & Teaching School. This is a group of schools that share the same purpose and aims; to raise standards and aspirations, enrich the curriculum and learning, with a commitment to collaboration and spreading good practice across the schools in North Devon and beyond.
